UV light helps our bodies produce Vitamin D. But it is a radiation from the Sun, and too much can be bad for us. The radiation can cause skin cells to grow in an uncontrolled way, and that is what forms cancer.
We must balance how much sunlight we are exposed to. That is why suncream helps by reducing how much reaches our skin cells.
