Richard Moss answered on 16 Mar 2016:

Asteroids are rocks floating in space. Some are trapped in orbit, most between Mars and Jupiter. Sometimes the Earth moves into their path and they burn in our atmosphere (shooting stars!). But they will stay moving around in our solar system.
